Meta has unveiled three new models of AI-integrated smart glasses at its annual Connect conference, marking a stronger push into wearable technology as it looks to shift daily interactions away from smartphones.

The latest products include the Ray-Ban Display, the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses, and the Oakley Vanguard designed for sports. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company sees smart eyewear as the most natural way to blend artificial intelligence tools with daily routines.

The Ray-Ban Display, introduced at $799, drew the most attention at the launch. This version features a miniature display inside the right lens, projecting visuals directly in the user’s field of view. It supports functions such as checking messages, joining video calls, watching clips, and using navigation without relying on a phone.

Meta has added AI-driven live captioning and real-time translation, with transcripts stored in the Meta AI app. The glasses connect with a wristband that responds to subtle finger gestures for controls. Battery backup runs for six hours on a single charge, with a carrying case offering 30 additional hours.

For those preferring a simpler design, Meta rolled out the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 priced at $379. This model comes with extended battery life of up to eight hours, an upgraded case that provides 48 extra hours of use, and enhanced color options.

The Gen 2 can capture video in 3K resolution, with new modes like slow-motion and hyperlapse expected later this year. Meta also introduced a “conversation focus” feature that improves clarity in noisy environments through open-ear speakers, highlighting communication as a key use case alongside entertainment.

Meta also partnered with Oakley to launch the Vanguard glasses at $499, targeting athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. The Vanguard connects with platforms like Garmin and Strava, enabling users to monitor workouts, cycling sessions, and runs directly through the device.

It comes with larger speakers, nine-hour battery life, a central wide-angle camera, and water and dust resistance. Zuckerberg said he personally tested the glasses while surfing, positioning them as an option for tougher outdoor activities.

Meta’s collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, which manufactures Ray-Ban frames, has already resulted in strong growth. Sales have reportedly more than tripled over the past year, with production targets set to reach 10 million units annually by 2026.

Despite technical hiccups during demonstrations — including a failed video call and a delayed AI recipe test — Meta said adoption trends resemble the early trajectory of other popular consumer electronics.

Competition in smart eyewear is increasing, with Google, Samsung, Snap, and Amazon also developing AI-based glasses. Meta aims to secure an early lead in this segment, promoting smart glasses as a step beyond the smartphone era.

The new lineup will be released in the United States on September 30 through retailers including Verizon, Best Buy, LensCrafters, and Ray-Ban outlets.
